Perched at the northern tip of the Sonoran desert, Kamloops is an idyllic golf region where its eight-month golf season offers golfers of all levels the chance to test out courses designed by some of the world's most recognized golf architects, including Robert Trent Jones Sr., Graham Cooke, and Thomas McBroom. The variety of Kamloops' golf courses offers a little bit of everything - from lakefront views to towering mountains, to tree-lined and fescue-framed holes and aromatic, sagebrush-covered hills. While all golf holes offer something special, we've earmarked the following signature golf holes of Kamloops for your special attention:
Bighorn Golf & CC #14
The elevation change from tee to green on Bighorn Golf & CC's Hole 14 is the largest on the course. The approach shot boasts and amazing vistas of the valley and city of Kamloops in the distance. Getting some good distance off the tee is the biggest factor here, and shots made to the left or right will feed back to the centre. Too much club can leave you with a severe hanging lie. The approach shot to this large green is two clubs less than your yardage dictates.
The Dunes at Kamloops #4
Take on 50 feet of elevation change from tee to green while enjoying the view of the natural landscape on this steep, downhill 4th Hole par 3 at The Dunes at Kamloops. Select your club with care and beware the left side of the green, where a large swale will take your tee shots and make it difficult to putt for par.
Eaglepoint Golf Resort #18
The 18th at Eaglepoint Golf Resort offers the highest vantage point on a steep, cliffside plateau, but you’ll want to pull your eyes back down to take on this challenging, dog-leg 505-yar Par 5. Winding its way back to the clubhouse, be aware of the natural fescue lining this hole and avoid an errant shot to reach par. Are you itching to take on a few of these signature golf holes? The Golf Course at Sun Peaks Resort #16
The honour of the signature hole goes to this shorter par 4 Hole #16 on the Golf Course at Sun Peaks Resort, offering panoramic views of the village below and forcing the golfer to face towering Mt. Morrisey. As the highest elevation golf hole in British Columbia (1,333 metres or 4,353 feet) the elevated tee box will have you feeling on top of the world as you drive toward the green.
Kamloops Golf & CC #3
This short par 5 at Kamloops Golf & CC is a high risk/reward hole featuring water at the 150 all down the left side with a backdrop of rolling hills and ancient willow trees making Hole #3 the course favourite. For your average golfer, a lay-up second shot will reach the 100-yard line, while the more confident can hit the green in just two shots. The inside of the first fairway slopes to the water, and the green features a false front so stay focused.
Rivershore Estates #10
The doglegging par 4 10th hole at Rivershore Estates will require your concentration as you thread the needle from the tee between two ponds and head for mid-fairway. From there, you can play it safe and take two more to get on the green in regulation, or take your chances with another shot over the edge of the pond to reach the pin situated right on the back of the green. With five of Rivershore’s 99 bunkers residing here, you’ll need all your golf talent to score par!
Talking Rock #7
Beware the (bunker) bear on this signature par 5 at Talking Rock Golf Course (located just outside of Kamloops), where the top golf tip is to grip it and rip it from the elevated tee box for a little extra drive. This hole runs quicker than it looks, as a ridge that runs through the middle of the green makes for a fast downhill.
Tobiano #14
The lakeside Par 4 at Tobiano Golf Course is one of BC’s finest. Located on one of the highest points on the golf course, golfers are treated to postcard-perfect mountain backdrop fronted by Kamloops Lake. The isolated green is framed by rough fescue on the left and deep bunkers on the right, creating a risky opportunity to golfers who are contemplating a back nine charge.
